Sending riteMail Messages
To create
your first riteMail message, click on
item in the left navigation bar of any page, on the

button on the product pages, or on the needed
item on the downloads page.
To reply to a riteMail message that someone has sent you, click the Write back button in the riteMail pane.
- If you are replying to a riteMail message that
someone has sent you, you will see the following screen in the body of the email
message:

Note that the actual email window will vary depending on the email client you
use. This image shows a riteMail letter in the body of Microsoft Outlook
Express email.
Click the Write back button.
The response message will appear on the screen.

You can now write anywhere on the message pane.
When sending the new or response message, first time users will be directed to the
registration page. After registering, you will be able to send your riteMail
message and will receive access to riteMail service for your future
correspondence.
When replying to riteMail messages, a dashed red line appears
above the message you are replying to. This Message Separator provides an
expandable blank workspace for your response:
it separates previous messages and replies from your new content. You are free to mark up any section of the
message.

If you are creating a new riteMail message (not replying to
one), you will need to enter the addressing information in the message header
area:

Enter the following information in the message header area:
- From address:
By default, your Primary Email address entered during registration will appear
in the From field. Your can enter another email address, registered
under your riteMail account (see Registration
and Login). Use the format <user>@<domain>, for example,
me@myhome.com. Replies to this riteMail message will be sent to the specified
email account.
- To address: Enter the email address(es) of the person(s)
you wish to send this riteMail message to in the To field. Use the format <user>@<domain>, for example,
steve@hismailaccount.com.
Separate multiple addresses by semicolons or commas.
- Subject: Let your recipient know what your message is about
by entering the desired subject in the Subject field

Creating riteMail
Messages
To create a riteMail message, select your desired
writing tool and begin writing and/or drawing your message. It's that simple!
You can select different writing tools, ink widths, and colors at any time while
creating the message.
When creating or responding to riteMail messages, a red dashed
line appears in the riteMail message pane. This "splitter" line
provides blank space for you to write and acts as a separation between riteMail messages that are being
passed back and forth to avoid confusion.

If you add new content above the splitter, it automatically
moves down and provides more space as your new drawings approach the splitter
line as shown below:

If you mark up and edit the content that arrived in the riteMail message and is located below the splitter,
the message separator does not move.
New space will also be added automatically when your create new riteMail messages
or respond to existing messages and write or draw near the bottom of the pane.
You will see the scroll bar slider in your message moving up, which indicates
the additional free space. Scroll down to use this space.

You can scroll through riteMail messages by using the scroll bar on the right side of the pane. The scroll function and message separator combine to
make riteMail messages function like infinitely long paper scrolls.

Writing Tools
Clicking one of the three Writing Tool buttons selects the desired writing
tool:

From left to right, your writing tool choices are:
- Pencil: This pencil never needs sharpening! This writing
tool simulates a round pencil lead

- Pen: This writing tool simulates a "chisel point" pen. Like a real pen, the actual ink width depends on the direction of pen travel.
The pen can add unique calligraphy or other artistic effects

- Eraser: This tool simulates liquid paper with the background color of the work area (writing pad) and can be
used to erase mistakes, make revisions to received messages, or to create highlights for other text
or graphics. You can write or draw over the "erased" area

Eraser
automatically assumes the paper color even
if you change that color on the fly.
The previously
erased strokes are also
"repainted" with every such
change.

You can switch ink thickness and color at any time while creating riteMail
messages by using the Ink Control pull-down menus:

- The left pull-down menu allows you to choose your desired ink
color. To change ink color, click the arrow to the right of the currently
selected color and highlight your desired color. Note that you cannot select
colors when the Eraser tool is in use
- The right pull-down menu allows you to choose your ink width. To change ink width, simply click the arrow to the right of the currently selected
width and highlight your desired width
These easy to use tools let you quickly create rich riteMail
messages. Want to add a personal touch to an email by sending it in your own
handwriting? Draw a map to help friends find your lunch? Visually explain
an idea? riteMail lets you do all of this, adding a new dimension
to traditional email! Here is an example of a complete riteMail
message:

In the above example, the basic picture above helps viewers find their way
to your picnic far more effectively than the several sentences of text you would
need to use otherwise!

Editing riteMail
Messages
Oops! You've just made a mistake. No problem. Click one of the Editing
buttons:

- Clicking the Undo button cancels your last action. You
can also erase an area (cover it with "liquid paper") and write or draw over it to highlight your writing
or drawing or add comments to a previous riteMail message
- Clicking
the Remove Strokes button allows you to delete words and drawings
by crossing out strokes. You can also delete the bottom portion of the message
by drawing the horizontal Remove Strokes line from the left to
the right margin of the message. Similarly, you can remove the top
portion of the message by drawing the horizontal Remove Strokes
line right to left so that it crosses the whole work
area.
- Clicking the Clear button completely clears your riteMail
message. This action cannot be reversed, so you will be prompted to
confirm
- If you need to erase
a portion of content in a specific part of your riteMail
message, use the Eraser writing tool. It works like a "liquid
paper" with the background color of the writing pad and allows to fix
minor errors or add revisions to the previous content.
Note that the Undo button, when applied to shapes recognized by the riteShape
tool, first recovers your original strokes converted to shapes, and then
clears them. This helps you to freely mix shapes and handwriting without
concerning too much about toggling the riteShape button every time you
move on from drawing shapes to writing text. You can also undo the Remove
Strokes operation.

riteShape
Need a perfect circle, square, or other basic shape? Toggle the riteShape
feature on and off by clicking the riteShape button:

This button appears normal when the riteShape feature is disabled,
and pressed when enabled:

When riteShape is enabled, riteMail watches as you create
your riteMail message and automatically smoothes shapes as you
draw them. This feature is great for basic geometric shapes, arrows, and delimiting
lines to segment your note. You may, however, want to disable it when using
handwriting to avoid possible confusion. See Smoothing Shapes
