Getting Started
This section contains helpful information that you will need to familiarize
yourself with riteMail before you begin writing or responding
to your first riteMail message.

The riteMail Interface
System Requirements
In order to use riteMail, you must have a desktop or laptop computer
capable of receiving HTML messages and of running Java, or a wireless handheld
device. You also need Internet connection and a regular email
account.
riteMail
is fully compatible with pen tablets for creating messages. riteMail is also available for Pocket PC handheld
computers. Please visit the riteMail site regularly to check
for updates and the forthcoming PalmOS and other versions of riteMail.
Specifications for desktop and laptop computers
- Processor: Pentium or Macintosh 233 MHZ or higher
- Memory: 64MB RAM or more
- Monitor: VGA or better
- Operating system: Windows 98/2000/NT, Mac OS, Unix or Linux
- Internet browser: Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.X or higher,
Netscape Communicator 4.X or higher, Opera browser. On Macintosh computers, only Internet
Explorer 4.X is currently supported. Java in the browser should be
enabled.
- Browser cookies: If your browser accepts cookies and cookies are enabled, riteMail
service will identify your account automatically; otherwise, you will have
to login with your User Name and Password on the registration page every time you send
a riteMail message

Registration and Login
You
can instantly use riteMail and create your first message by
clicking on
item in the left navigation bar of any page, on the

button on the product pages, or on the needed
item on the downloads page.
When
you send your first riteMail letter, whether it was a new
handwritten message or a reply to someone's letter, you will be offered to
register for the service. The Registration Form requests minimum info that lets us efficiently serve you.
Please make sure that all Required Fields
marked with a red asterisk * are correctly completed.
In order to be able to normally send and receive riteMail
messages, it is important that you enter correct Primary Email*
address.
This address will appear in the From field of your future riteMail
messages.
Before you press the Submit button in the form, make sure that you read, understood and
agree with all terms of Software License and Service Agreement.
After you have successfully registered, your first riteMail letter
will be sent.
When you repeatedly visit riteMail Web
site to write your handwritten letters, you will either be identified
automatically or will need to Sign-in into the
system with your User Name and Password. If you elect to not be
identified automatically via cookies, you may choose to Remember
Login info to facilitate the login process.
Every
time you write a handwritten letter with a new email address
in the From field, different from the email addresses you have
previously used, you will be offered to Login once again so your additional
email address could be added to the riteMail database and enable
you send your future riteMail messages from that address. You do not
have to re-register anew to add a new "alias" email address to your
account.
All personal information you provide during registration is confidential and
is not disclosed to any other parties or individuals, in compliance with our
Privacy Policy.

The riteMail Interface
When you first visit the riteMail Web
site from your desktop or laptop computer and click Run Now anywhere on the Web
site, or when you click Write Back on the message you received from somebody,
the riteMail Create Message screen opens in your Web browser, with the
Welcome screen beneath it. You can instantly start writing your new riteMail
message or response.

The Create Message screen has the following interface elements:
- Message Header (1): This is where you enter the sender
and recipient information and the subject of your message. See Addressing
riteMail Messages.
- Send button (2): Click the Send button when you
are ready to send your riteMail message. See Sending
riteMail Messages.
- Tool Selectors (3): Click the desired button to select
a writing tool. Each tool behaves like its real world counterpart, and you
may freely switch tools while creating your riteMail message.

- Ink Controls (4): Use the pull-down menus to select your
ink color and thickness. You may freely switch colors and line thickness while
creating riteMail messages. See Ink Controls.
- Edit Controls (5): You can undo mistakes and clear your
entire message by clicking the appropriate button. See Editing riteMail
Messages.
- riteShape button (6): Need
a perfect circle, square, or other shape? Click the riteShape button, draw an approximation of the shape
you need, and watch it transform into a smooth geometric shape! See riteShape.
- Options
button (7): Allows to change paper color, grid color and appearance and
copy messages to the sender
- Help Button
(8): Opens the online riteMail Quick Start Guide
- riteMail
logo (9): Directs to riteMail home page
- Work Area
(10): Here is where you create or reply to riteMail
messages. The dashed blue line in the Work Area is Message Separator, which
appears in the response messages and automatically provides free space for
your response in the top portion of the document. See Your First riteMail Message.
