Sending Messages

Once you have completed your riteMail message and tapped the Send button , the message will disappear from your screen and will be placed in the  Outbox folder. Your have a few options to send handwritten messages from your Palm handheld. You can change these options in the Delivery settings dialog box under the Mail->Delivery settings menu item.

    1. Using riteMail service and sending messages via riteMail's mail
         servers

If your personal preferences and/or corporate policies allow you to use  Web-based services, this could be your preferred method. It will  deliver messages to your recipients, store their copies on riteMail's secure back-end and allow your recipients to view messages on any Java-enabled connected desktop or laptop, on any platform, without installing any riteMail software. They can also instantly reply to your messages from their desktops in their own handwriting.

   2. Using riteMail service and sending messages via other mail
       servers

You can use riteMail service to facilitate message viewing and response to your recipients, but send messages through other SMTP email server. In this case, you have to enter the SMTP Server name in the dialog box and check the mark Require authentication if necessary.

This option will still allow your recipients to view riteMail messages on their Java-enabled desktops and laptops, but the "transport" will shift from riteMail's own mail service to another mail server.

   3. Sending messages via other mail servers without using riteMail
       service

You would normally use this option if your corporate policies and/or personal preferences do not allow you to send emails via public Web-based services.

Same as in the previous option, you would have to enter the SMTP Server name in the dialog box and check Require authentication if necessary. With this delivery method, you may achieve the necessary corporate security level, but the recipients of your messages would need to install special riteMail client software to view messages.

Irrespective of your chosen delivery option, riteMail messages actually leave the riteMail Outbox and are delivered to the recipients in one of two cases:

  • When you select Send mail item from Mail menu

  • When you synchronize your Palm handheld with the desktop using HotSync

After sending, messages will be moved from the Outbox message folder to the Sent folder. You can open, edit and re-send messages from the Sent folder.

   4. Beaming messages

To beam a riteMail message over IR to another PDA, select the Beam item in the Message menu:

and perform all regular beaming operations.

On devices equipped with Bluetooth connection, an additional option "Send over Bluetooth" is available. It works similarly to beaming over IR.
