Customizing riteMail

When you first launch riteMail, you will be presented with the Setup dialog page, prompting you first to identify yourself by completing the User form. If you are using the riteMail service to send digital ink emails (see Digital Ink Messaging Options), then the e-mail you enter in the User form will be used to authenticate you to the riteMail service. If you are already registered with the riteMail service, be sure that you enter one of the emails currently listed under your profile (see riteMail Registration for details). You can always open the Settings dialog later using Tools->Setup option in the main riteMail menu.

Setup->User Tab

The User tab is where you specify your email settings:

Enter the following information in this tab:

  • First Name, Last Name: Enter your name here.

  • Email Address: Enter your desired return email address here.  This is the address that will appear in the 'From' field of riteMail messages you send to others.

If you already have a riteMail registration, you need to enter one of the email addresses, registered in your riteMail profile.  If you enter a different address or if you don't have riteMail registration, then, upon sending your first riteMail message, the service will register your email automatically under a new profile and you will receive a notification letter with the password, allowing you to access that profile.

Setup->Message Tab

The Message tab is where you specify your default message appearance settings, which are applied to all new riteMail messages you create.

Enter the following information in this tab:

  • Paper color: Tap the colored box to see the palette of available background colors.  Tap the desired color to select it.  Your selected color will be applied to the background of all your riteMail messages. In addition, all previous strokes drawn with Eraser will also acquire new paper color (see Creating riteMail Messages)

  • Grid: Enter your desired grid options:

    • Grid lines: Checking the Horizontal and/or Vertical boxes causes grid lines to appear in the desired direction.  Clearing one ore both check boxes hides grid lines in the selected direction(s).

    • Step: Use the sliders to determine the horizontal and/or vertical spacing between grid lines.

    • Color: Tap the colored box to see the palette of available grid line colors.  Tap the desired color to select it.  Your selected color will be applied to the grid lines of all of your riteMail messages.  Make sure that the grid color contrasts with the background color.

You will be able to change message appearance settings at any time.

Setup->Storage Tab

The Storage tab allows you to specify the memory card you want to be available for riteMail to allocate its storage on.

Enter the following information in this tab:

  • Use storage card: Select the card you want to be available for riteMail to store its messages. Select <none> if you do not want to allocate riteMail storage of this card.

  • Delete Data: Use this button to remove the allocated riteMail storage from the selected storage card.

Settings->Sending Tab

The Sending tab is where you specify how you wish your riteMail messages to be sent:

Define the following options in this tab:

  • Deliver messages immediately: If this checkbox is enabled, riteMail will attempt to deliver your handwritten messages every time you press Send button in a message. If it is disabled, your messages will be stored in the riteMail (local)> Outbox folder and will be delivered when you choose the Tools>Send Outgoing menu item (see Sending Messages).

  • Use riteMail service: If this checkbox is enabled, your messages will go through riteMail server, which will deliver them to recipients and allow them to instantly view your messages in any HTML enabled mailer and will allow recipients to reply in their own handwriting on any Java-enabled device. If this option is disabled, you would have to specify a custom SMTP server to deliver riteMail messages, and your recipients will have to install riteMail software to view the messages on their desktops or PDAs (see Digital Ink Messaging Options).

Whether your are using riteMail service or not, you can still deliver your messages in different ways. The following item in the Sending tab allows you to specify that.

  • Deliver messages via: Use this pull-down menu to select the email server that will be used to send riteMail messages:

    • If you select riteMail server, your message will go directly to that server, which will take care about the delivery to your recipients.

    • Because some email systems (for example, MSN mail) always require to send the original messages through their email servers, it may be necessary to use such custom servers even if the messages will then go through riteMail service. The option Custom SMTP server allows to do that.

    • Finally, you may choose to use your pre-loaded mail client Pocket Outlook and its respective servers to deliver riteMail messages

  • Properties: With each delivery method, explained above, click Properties button to check or specify its properties

    • riteMail server can use the HTTP protocol (default) or the SMTP protocol to connect to the server.

      The HTTP setting is the default and works for most installations.
    • With Custom SMTP server, you have to enter the SMTP server name and provide Username and Password

    • If you have chosen Pocket Outlook as the delivery method, you have to specify whether riteMail should use the default Outlook service or a service associated with any of your Outlook accounts to deliver your messages.

  • Save a copy to the 'Sent' folder: Checking this box will save copies of all sent riteMail messages to your local Sent Items folder.

  • Always send a copy to myself: Checking this box will send a copy of every sent riteMail message back to yourself.  This is the equivalent of entering your own email address in the Cc: field.

Note: Due to the limitation of certain ActiveSync versions, messages sent using it may have a 16K/32K size limitation. Sending over direct Internet connection (wireless or wired) does not have this limitation.

Setup->Receiving

This tab allows you to create new and edit existing account for downloading messages from POP3 and IMAP4 servers:

This tab has the following buttons:

  • New: Starts new account wizard.

  • Edit: Select an existing account and press this button to edit all setting for this account.

  • Delete: Select an existing account and choose Delete to remove this account.

See Receiving Messages for details.
