Creating riteMail Messages

  • To create a new riteMail message, tap New to open a blank riteMail message. Another convenient
To reply to a message, tap the Reply arrow at the bottom of a message you opened from a Message folder.
  • If address bar is not visible, open it by clicking small button with double-arrows in the top left corner of the screen.
  • To address a message, enter the recipient's email address(es) in the To field.  You may click the To button to open your Pocket PC Contacts application and select your desired recipient(s).
  • Enter the message subject in the Subject field.
  • Clicking the Send button transports your message into the appropriate Service's Outbox folder.  The message disappears from the screen (see also Sending messages).
  • Tapping the OK button in the top right corner of your screen prompts you to save the message before closing it.  You may choose a riteMail (local) folder to save the message to.

When creating or replying to riteMail messages, you have the following options available via the riteMail Write Message Toolbar at the bottom of your screen (options shown from left to right):

  • Message: This menu has the following options:
    • View Settings: You may view the message with zoom of  400%, 200%, or 100% (4x/2x/1x).
    • Settings: This option allows you to set paper and gridline settings for this particular message. Note: you may use Setup->Message dialog to set the default settings for all new messages.
    • Clear: Erases the content of the current message. You will be prompted to confirm, to  make sure you don't erase the content occasionally
    • Save: This option saves the current message to the currently selected folder.
    • Save in: This option allows you to specify the folder to save the current message to.  Use the pull-down menu to select the folder you wish to save the message to, then tap the OK button.  Both the Save and Save in functions allow riteMail to be used for taking notes in addition to email.  You can save messages in one of the local riteMail folders and open them for editing and/or emailing any time you wish
    • Save to File: The Save and Save in functions save messages into riteMail's internal database. To make riteMail available to other applications and directly transferable to desktops and other devices, you may choose the Save to File menu item to save the message as an .itp file into any file folder on your device or an attached storage card.
    • Beam: Beams the message to another Pocket PC or IR-compatible device.

  • Undo: This tool reverts the last change you made to your message.  If you are using the riteShape smoothing tool, the Undo button first recovers the initial (non-smoothed) series of strokes and then deletes them on the second tap on the Undo.  This feature allows you to freely mix smoothed shapes with regular writing and drawing without having to constantly toggle the riteShape tool on and off.
  • riteShape: The riteShape tool automatically converts your freehand shapes into perfect geometrical objects.  It recognizes quadrangles, triangles, ovals, arrows and arbitrary "polylines". Automatic alignment of the resulting shapes allows you to draw high quality quick charts.  When active, riteShape converts everything you write or draw into smoothed shapes.  Note: you will normally want to deactivate this tool (the riteShape button appears highlighted when the tool is active) when you handwrite or draw pictures.
The following images illustrate a circle before (left) and after (right) the riteShape feature is used:

  • Writing Tools: The Writing Tools button (pencil) allows you to choose the following digital writing tools, from left to right:

  •
    • Pencil: The pencil has a standard round lead and is the tool most often used when creating or responding to riteMail messages.
    • Pen: The pen simulates a chisel point marker and is useful for adding calligraphy or other artistic effects to your riteMail messages.
    • Eraser: The eraser works like a pencil eraser, erasing everything it passes over and replacing it with the background color.
    • Scissors:This tool allows you to delete entire strokes (including eraser strokes) at once.  Draw a line across the stroke(s) you wish to delete.  With this tool selected, drawing a horizontal line across the screen from LEFT TO RIGHT deletes all content BELOW the line.  Drawing a horizontal line from RIGHT TO LEFT deletes all content ABOVE the line. Note that the horizontal line has to be "recognized" as a deletion gesture, so try to make it straight and not slanted or jittered.

  • Selection tool: Click this button to select part of your ink text or drawing that you want to copy or move to another part of  your document. To select particular strokes surround them with 'lasso' or simply cross them with your pen.

If you want to modify your selection, click the selection tool button again.

In the popup menu choose the add-select (+) or the subtract-select (-) tool. When you will cross or surround additional strokes using the add-select tool, they will be added to your selection. Do the same with some of the currently selected strokes using the subtract-select tool, to remove them from the selection.

You can drag angles or sides of the selection frame to resize the selected strokes. Press and hold over the selection frame - and you will see the selection popup menu. It allows you to cut/copy/paste selected strokes, clear them or apply riteShape to the selection. Also, when you have some strokes selected, you may alter color and line thickness using the appropriate tools in order to modify the attributes of the selected strokes (see below).

  • Color: This tool opens the color box and allows you to choose 32 ink colors as shown below, which includes the 12 colors available to the riteMail Web Edition.  Simply tap the color of your choice to select it and return to your previously selected writing tool with the new color selection enabled.  Desktop users who receive a riteMail message from Pocket PC will see all 32 colors.

  • Line Thickness: This tool allows you to choose the ink thickness.  From left to right, you can select Fine, Thin, Medium, Thick, Heavy, and Grand by tapping your selection.  Once you make a selection, you will be returned to your previously selected writing tool with the new line thickness setting enabled.
